Social services available during the holidays

Help is always available no matter what time of year or day it is.

The festive season brings families and loved ones together but it can also prove to be a challenging time for some. With additional pressures comes additional stress and it is essential to be aware of the resources available within your community and province should you need to use them.

"It's important Albertans know help is always available. You are not alone. During the holidays, resources that support the heath, safety and security of Albertans will continue to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week," explains Rajan Sawhney, Minister of community and social services.

The Cochrane Family & Community Support Services will be closed on Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1, however, emergency lines remain readily available if you require any assistance over the holidays. Any distress calls can be made at 403-266-1601 or 403-266-HELP (4357).

Emergency support to meet basic needs, income support is also available at 1-866-644-5135.

For anyone facing family violence, bullying or abuse the following three lines are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week in over 170 languages.

  • Family Violence Info Line: 310-1818
  • Child Abuse Hotline: 1-800-387-KIDS (5437)
  • Bullying Helpline: 1-888-456-2323

It is important to remember that support and a friendly ear are just a call away.
