SOTB getting in holiday spirit

Seniors on the Bow (SOTB) is due to take a couple of weeks holiday to celebrate a successful year and to recharge our batteries for 2016. We will close at noon on Friday, Dec. 18, and reopen 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4.

Looking at the January 2016 calendar you will note a busy time to start off the year. Almost all activities begin the first day back on Jan. 4. You can register for town programs ahead of time by contacting them at 403-851-2500 or cochrane.ca/eServices. Please see details in the Town Program and Activity Guide for Spring and Summer. Note, you have the option to “Try Before You Buy,” which offers free first classes to help you decide which programs are a good fit for you.

Monday movie matinees at 1:15 are:

Jan. 4: The Intern, a comedy about a senior who hires on as a beginner employee Jan. 11: A Walk in the Woods, where Bill Bryson hikes the Appalachian Trail Jan. 18: The Martian, which is a survival tale of a man left behind on another planet Jan. 25: Learning to Drive, a drama/comedy concerning marriage difficulties.

Karaoke, organized by our own Blossom Braganza, goes Friday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. Coffee with the mayor is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 1:30 p.m.

The fine art show goes on Saturday, Jan. 16, from 1-4 p.m. This is free. Shannon at 403-932-6002 or 403-851-2959 is coordinator.

January hot lunch is set for Friday, Jan. 22, at 12:30 p.m. For $6 the menu is chili, homemade buns and dessert. Please register soon (by Jan. 20) because seating is limited to 75 for this very popular event. Pub Friday follows lunch when shuffleboard, pool and darts will be available. Beer and wine will be available for $4 a glass.

A self-defence workshop goes Thursday, Jan. 28, at 1:30 p.m. On Friday, Jan. 29, the following are available at 2 p.m.: Dance with Lise, who will teach some basic dance steps. Or you may free dance if you wish. Book Club meets to discuss Wild, a hiking story that takes place on the Pacific Crest Trail. Cribbage and Scrabble will also be available.
