Springbank Community High School hosts Financial Literacy Week for its students

Springbank Community High School (SCHS) is hosting Financial Literacy Week for its students beginning Feb. 23.

Springbank Community High School (SCHS) is hosting Financial Literacy Week for its students beginning Feb. 23.

Over three days, the school will have around 10 presenters address financial matters relevant to students, recent graduates and professionals.

According to Carla Cochran, with SCHS, the optional sessions will be 40 minutes in length and take place during the school’s “focus block” so students don’t have to miss their regular classes in order to attend.

The topics being covered range from budgeting, planning, investing, credit, financing a vehicle and more.

The volunteer presenters include parents, Sunlife Financial professionals, Banking professionals and Chartered Professional Accountants.

Cochran explained this is the first time the school is trying Financial Literacy Week but they anticipate it will be a success – much like the Career Week they held back in November.

While financial matters are covered in the mandatory Career and Life Management (CALM) class, these sessions “go above and beyond” the normal curriculum.

Anyone looking for more information about the sessions and registration is asked to contact Cochran at [email protected]
