St. Tim's to bring the thunder

St. Timothy High School’s fundraising event, the Thunder Gala, will be happening once again Feb. 6.

The theme this year is ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and will include a Jack Sparrow impersonator, a magician and the school’s award-winning band.

“We try to involve our students as much as we can to showcase their talents and abilities and show our community what their dollars are doing,” said school principal Randy Smith.

He added that students from the school’s food program would be making some of the ‘finger foods’ for the event.

There will also be a live and silent auction at the gala, as well as a raffle for two tickets anywhere WestJet flies.

All of the money raised is directed back into student programs, technology and resources in support of the students.

“It is an initiative for the entire school,” said Smith. “That is the great thing about it, is that no matter what programs the students might be involved in they are going to reap the benefits in some capacity, because they know that their department or the programs that they are involved in will be getting some sort of contribution.”

Last year the event raised $13,000 and Smith said they hope to garner even more this year.

The evening will run from 7 – 11 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium. Tickets are $15 and $5 for students. For more information call 403-500-2106.
