Cochrane’s annual Mutt Strut is returning on May 27.

Inviting residents and guests to bring their four-legged furry friends to take on one and five-kilometre walks, attendees will also have an opportunity to check out vendors, while getting the opportunity to get their pooch’s photo taken or pampering their dogs with a pedicure.

Featured by the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, all funds raised from individuals, teams and registration go to the animals at the local shelter with prizes to be awarded to top adult, youth and team fundraisers.

Funds are used to help with the vet clinic and medical costs, as operating costs are kept low with the huge volunteer base.

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society was founded in 1998 after a partnership between Charlene Ruttle, the Town of Cochrane’s animal control officer, and Tracy Keith to rescue and re-home lost, unwanted and surrendered animals. Now the society also offers educational programs and rural spay/neuter programs.

Last year, the annual event raised approximately $30,000.

Registration is $10. The annual Strut takes place on May 27 with registration starting at 9 a.m. and the walk to start at 10 a.m. at Mitford Park, located at 201 Rock Rd. W.
