A male in his late-teens was transported to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance from Mt. Allan/Nakiska Ski Resort on the afternoon of Jan. 15.
“Patrollers had been summoned on the hill after the skier had apparently lost control, struck his head, and required rescue off the hill,” said Stuart Brideaux, public education officer with Alberta Health Services.
EMS units from Kananaskis and Canmore initially responded to the incident and, after taking over for the resort’s patrollers who had been administering care, determined the patient to be in potentially life-threatening condition with concerns for a head injury.
“After further assessment and interventions at the scene, the patient was flown to Foothills Hospital (in Calgary),” Brideaux said.
No other skiers were involved in the incident.
