It’s been a spring season filled with momentum for local folk-roots five piece, Elbow River Band, who will be paying homage to their Cochrane fans with a June 13 performance at the Cumbrian Arms pub.

The ensemble is still flying high with their February release of their debut full-length album, Redtail Flyer, charting on CKUA and CJSW and receiving radio play on a number of radio stations across the country with their Celtic and country-fused folk originals.

“We’ve had a lot of airplay,” enthused Leanne Copithorne (singer/songwriter, guitar). “Since then, we’ve been writing up a storm of new songs.”

It’s something of a family collaboration, with Leanne is joined by daughter Kaitlynn Copithorne (accordion/vocals), son Charlie Copithorne (mandolin), her daughter’s fiancé, Brandon Smith (bass) and multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/producer Tim Jeffery (lead guitar, dobro, songwriting).

Leanne said the band is looking forward to performing at the Cumbrian — “that was one of the places we cut our teeth and the Cochrane people are so supportive” — following a flurry of shows across the province in celebration of their release.
