The building blocks are now in place for the future Horse Creek Sports Park, as well as a second access in Sunset Ridge.

The Town of Cochrane has completed their annexation from Rocky View County of two parcels of land to make this possible - a 40-acre parcel of land north of Sunset Ridge and a 158-acre parcel north of Heritage Hills.

"The annexation of these lands allows the town to complete two critical needs," said Mayor Jeff Genung in a press release this morning. "The first is a road acquisition for the critical secondary highway access to Sunset Ridge. The second facilitates the development of the Horse Creek Sports Park, providing much needed recreational lands, town maintenance and transit facilities and future high school site."

Identified as strategic priorities for town council, Genung commended the province for their speedy resolved of the matter to close the deal.

Some of the 40-acre parcel will be used to build a secondary access to Sunset Ridge - the largest residential community in Cochrane. This secondary access must be built before Sunset can be built out as a full community (Stage 3) by area developer Melcor.

The infrastructure includes the widening of Highway 22, addition of dual turn lanes at Sunset Blvd. and completion of the second access. Melcor still needs to complete Stage 2 prior to beginning the next stage.

This annexation is effective as of July 1, 2019.
