A series of traffic improvements along River Heights Drive, aimed to increase safety and efficiency along the corridor, will start on April 3.
Executive director of development and infrastructure services for the Town of Cochrane, Drew Hyndman, said the Town has been monitoring traffic in the area since the opening the Jack Tennant Bridge in 2020.
“With the recent announcement of a new K-8 school planned for the area and increasing traffic due to local residential development, these proactive measures will help to ensure the community is well prepared to receive the future school population,” he said.
The traffic improvements include a speed limit reduction from 50 km/h to 30 km/h from River Heights Lane to the existing school zone for Bow Valley High School, which starts on the week of April 3.
In spring 2024, a solar-powered crosswalk is scheduled to be installed at the Riviera Way roundabout. In summer 2024, a controlled and signalled intersection will be installed at the intersection of River Heights Drive and Rivercrest Drive/Willow Gate.
Cochrane will continue to work with the developers of Southbow Landing for planned development of James Walker Trail. Municipal enforcement will continue to monitor River Heights Drive to enforce traffic regulation and deter speeding.
