Upcoming career expo to offer something for all who attend

With the third annual Cochrane Job Fair and Career Expo just a day away, job hunters should start putting those final touches on their resumes. Held Feb.

With the third annual Cochrane Job Fair and Career Expo just a day away, job hunters should start putting those final touches on their resumes.

Held Feb. 21 at the Cochrane RancheHouse, the event boasts a collection of roles waiting to be filled by eager job seekers. Whether you’re a student, volunteer or a professional, the expo, put on by Cochrane Economic Development, boasts a little something for everyone.

Robert Kalinovich, an economic development officer with the town, expects the event to present about 20 employers, offering somewhere in the realm of 400 job positions.

“The bulk of the numbers are for seasonal positions, although we do have many positions looking for full-time, permanent professionals,” said Kalinovich. “There’s a big variety (of positions) for everyone to choose from.”

This variety includes a handful of part-time and volunteer jobs, he added.

Industries ranging from oil and gas to health care providers will be lining the halls at the RancheHouse. The list includes exhibitors from the Town of Cochrane, Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino, and Southland Transportation Ltd.

Fair attendees are encouraged to bring resumes and dress to impress.

“Expect to meet employers face-to-face — even to do on-the-spot interviews,” said Kalinovich, adding that, in the past, people have even left the expo with a job.

“Even for students, this is a great opportunity to meet potential employers. Maybe you’re not ready for a job at an oil and gas company yet. This way, you can meet the employers and network for when you’re entering the industry.”

For those interested in a top-notch CV, stop by the Cochrane Employment Services exhibit for a critique of your cover letter and resume.

The Job Fair and Career Expo runs Feb. 21 from 2-6 p.m. Admission for job seekers is free.

Any employers interested in setting up a last-minute exhibit are encouraged to contact Robert Kalinovich. Registration for employers is $75.
