A fire that originated in a garage spread to a home located on Highway 22, north of Cochrane Toyota, directly across from Rolling Range Drive just after noon Monday.

Cochrane Fire Services inspector Jeff Avery said two local trucks and a truck from Rocky View County responded to the scene. Avery said five occupants and several pets were evacuated safely while one small dog perished in the fire. He added that the contents of the home were a total loss.

Avery said foul play isn't suspected at this time. He will return to the scene with Cochrane Fire Services to continue a thorough investigation.

"It was just a bad accident," he said Monday night.
