The Cochrane RCMP issued 500 tickets over the long weekend as the detachment joined a province-wide enforcement blitz. There were an average number of calls to service responded to by the detachment general duty members and the Cochrane RCMP Traffic Unit was out in full force with the Alberta Sheriffs working hard to keep the highways safe, stated a news release from the Cochrane RCMP.

In all, five drivers were removed from the road and charged with an impaired driving offence, four received an immediate roadside suspension for an alcohol related offence and approximately 522 traffic enforcement tickets were issued.

“Alberta weather can be very unpredictable for the Victoria Day long weekend, but it was business as usual at the Cochrane Detachment” said Cst. Kary Moore. “We are prepared for everything from sunshine to snow and everything in between, we had the quads and the boat out ready to roll, as well as the trucks for the tougher to get to areas. People were out camping and enjoying themselves in the rain and for the most part did so responsibly.”

The Cochrane RCMP want to thank the public for enjoying themselves and their families responsibly this weekend and for their patience as they made their way through numerous checkstops in the area. The ultimate goal for this weekend, and always, is for everyone to enjoy themselves in Alberta’s back country and to make it home safe.
