Cochrane RCMP and emergency crews were busy this past weekend.

With 20 collisions and approximately 200 different complaints, Const. Jennifer Brewer said she is hopeful things will quiet down now.

“The long weekend had traffic volume increases with vehicles and people can get easily irritated and follow to closely and reaction time gets slower,” Brewer explained.

Out of the 20 collisions, there were no fatalities and only four of the collisions had injuries that required medical attention – many resulted in violation tickets. Four collisions that were reported were not actual collisions but were reported by passers by who did not stop to offer assistance or actually knew if a collision took place, according to RCMP press release.

“Although these complainants mean well, it does occupy members who now cannot assist with major calls as they are looking for a collision,” Brewer stated in the press release.

The majority of reports over the weekend are still under investigation, with three charges laid for impaired drivers and one on a 72-hour suspension.

Despite the high number of calls, which can range from anything to suspicious person, false alarms, domestic violence, Brewer said she is grateful that none were serious in nature.

If anyone witnesses any abnormal driving behaviour, or any other crimes is asked to please contact the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
