Court for a Stoney Nakoda Nation man charged with second-degree murder has been adjourned until May.
Tylen Tray Poucette, 20, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kori Wesley, also from the Nation, last August. Wesley’s body was found at the Chiniki Rodeo grounds on Aug. 7, 2016.
Wesley’s was stabbed 20 times, according to the family.
Cochrane RCMP found Wesley’s body with the help from Southern Alberta RCMP Major Crimes, Calgary and Lethbridge Forensic Identification Sections, RCMP Police Dog, the K Division Interview Assistance Team, and that Calgary Medical Examiner’s officer who deemed the death suspicious.
Poucette’s first appearance in Cochrane Provincial Court was last September when he was denied bail, and again in November when Poucette elected to have his case go before a judge and jury.
Poucette appeared in Cochrane Provincial Court on Feb. 7 where the date for the preliminary hearing was adjourned until May.
A 17-year-old youth also from the Nation, who cannot be identified due to age, was also arrested on Aug. 11. Details of the youth’s hearing were not available.
A second-degree murder case involving a fatal domestic dispute has been adjourned until later this month.
Vanessa Poucette, 46, from Stoney Nakoda Nation, was arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of Brennon Riley Twoyoungmen last October after RCMP responded to reports of a stabbing. Officers located Twoyoungmen outside the house, where he was declared dead on the scene.
RCMP Major Crime South Unit took over the investigation with assistance from the Cochrane RCMP.
Poucette appeared in court last November, where the hearing was adjourned and the preliminary hearing is now scheduled for Cochrane Provincial court later this month.
