Westbrook School students are on the move with a variety of activities days.

On Feb. 11, Westbrook middle school students will head to Spray Lakes Sports Centre to explore different physical activities, not normally offered in the physical education curriculum.

“We want to provide different activities for our middle school students and we wanted to give many different active opportunities,” said organizer Colleen Bushrod.

The school has been taking students to the Spray Lakes Sport Centre for the past three years, with the help of the centre’s staff helping pick out unique and interesting physical activities.

The student will be able to try rugby, pickle ball, an obstacle course or ice-skating at the Spray Lakes centre next week – or there will also be an opportunity for the Westbrook Grade 6 – 8 students to participate in Nakiska Ski Day on Feb. 24 as an alternative to gym class.

From beginner to expert, students have optional morning lessons before enjoying an afternoon on the slopes. Bushrod said the key is to mix up physical activities to keep Westbrook students active and healthy.

Both activity days are offered to Grade 6 – 8 Westbrook students as part of the phys ed class.
