What does Small Business Week mean in Canada?

Small Business Week falls on October 20-26 this year.

What does this mean for Canadian entrepreneurs?

Thousands of business owners will be coming together to celebrate, learn, and network with other entrepreneurs. The theme for 2019 is: Showcasing the people behind the business. Canadian small business owners are encouraged to share their stories about launching their businesses. Through this exercise, they will discover what keeps other entrepreneurs motivated and driven toward success.

It's important to celebrate Small Business Week because small and medium-sized businesses are the foundation of Canada's economy and account for 99 per cent of all businesses. In 2015, small and medium businesses employed about 10.5 million Canadians in the private sector. As the small business industry grows, it's important that all of us recognize their successes and recommend helpful tools and resources to assist them in making small financial decisions.

Taking advantage of Small Business Week is easy. You can attend events that are scheduled around the country with prominent business leaders, industry experts and other leaders who are offering advice, guidance and services. Attending such events are a great way to grow your professional network. Also, don't limit yourself to specific industry groups. Interact with business owners from a wide range of industries as they can provide you with insights that you can leverage as well.

Webinars are also valuable options if you're unable to attend scheduled panels or forums.

You're not alone in taking advantage of Small Business Week. Other businesses are using this week to leverage promotional deals and offers. Maximize this valuable opportunity to seek leads and best practice advice.
