WinterFest looking for volunteers

Cochrane’s annual family-friendly winter festival is getting ready to kick off in a couple of weeks and is seeking help.

Cochrane’s annual family-friendly winter festival is getting ready to kick off in a couple of weeks and is seeking help.

“We are definitely looking for volunteers for set up and take down as well for the various activities (and) sponsors are always welcome,” said Tara Chipp-Smith, Cochrane and Area Events Society (CAES) event co-ordinator. “

Keeping in mind it is the country’s 150th birthday this year, WinterFest organizers will also being trying to touch on Canada’s rich heritage.

“We have a trapper coming to educate us on the history of trapping, a Native hoop dancer, and Maple syrup demonstrations to name a few. We want to help educate people and have fun at the same time,” Chipp-Smith said.

In addition to the educational activities, the festival will also host the usual broomball, pony rides, human curling, ice dragon boat races, crafts, a magician, local stage entertainment and refreshments.

“We also have bumper balls, lacrosse and a fat bike demonstration, which are new as well,” Chipp-Smith said.

“It is a fun, family-friendly event with a lot to offer. Lots of entertainment from singing and dancing to arts and crafts and curling.”

While the festival will not be charging admission, donations will be collected for the Activettes.

Cochrane ATCO WinterFest will be hosted on Feb. 25 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Mitford Park. For more information, got to cochraneevents.ca.
