Yard and garden trends for the coming season

Anything Grows Cochrane has certainly noticed a number of trends this spring season.

And it seems that owls are the new gnomes.

“Wall and garden art continues to be really popular for our customers,” said store manager, Craig Belway. “And anything to do with owls is a hit.”

As far as what’s going into the ground, Belway said that organic gardening continues to grow in popularity, with Cochranites carting away bags of pesticide-free products, organic seeds and soil.

“Because of our weather, people are also turning to planters more and more,” said Belway, adding that the store planters filled with colourful annuals as well as the hodgepodge of do-it-yourself planters continue to climb in popularity.

“Potato planters huge right now, especially planting in bags — they’re more portable and are ideal for smaller spaces or for gardeners in apartments with small decks.”

To celebrate the long-anticipated arrival of spring, Anything Grows will feature their geraniums (in four-inch pots) on sale for half-price May 24-25.

All trees will also be discounted 40 per cent May 31-June 15.
