Youngsters burst into song

Cochrane’s young singing talent will be providing musical cheer this holiday season with the annual Cochrane Young Singers Christmas Concert.

This will be the sixth year of the concert and will feature a variety of Christmas and winter-themed music – including a Frozen medley.

“I think it is inspiring to see these kids being brave and getting up there and singing and sharing their love of music,” said artistic director Melanie Baux. “It’s a nice night out and community event.”

The group has both a junior and senior choir, with the junior ranging from ages six to 10 and senior from 10 to 16. Baux said to expect quite the variety of music for the evening. “We have everything. I’ve tried to give a wide variety because I want the kids to have an actual musical experience where they are learning something valuable, but I also want to keep them interested and have music that they love singing,” she said.

The group is always taking new members and Baux said that no audition would be necessary.

“The children come every week and they are just full of joy. They just love singing and really that is the only qualification that you have to have to be in the choir. You just have to love to sing and I think that is contagious,” she said.

The concert will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. The event is free, but people are encouraged to bring a food bank donation.
