More than 100 teams from across Alberta took part in the Alberta Treaty Hockey Championships March 27-31 in Cochrane, Cremona, Tsuu T’ina and a rink in northwest Calgary.

Hundreds of First Nations male and female players aged 5-17 took part in the tournament that changed from a Calgary-only event to a Cochrane-area tourney.

The teams from 15 First Nations communities from across Alberta used players from their communities only. No rosters were stocked with players from other communities.

Levels went from novice right up to midget.

“Everybody’s excited about coming to Cochrane,” Alberta Treaty Hockey Association president, and Morley resident, Marty Wildman said leading up to the tournament.
