Canadian luge duo 8th

Cochrane’s Tristan Walker, and doubles sliding partner Justin Snith of Calgary, finished eighth at a World Cup luge event Jan. 11 in Oberhof, Germany.

After taking Canada’s first-ever medal (bronze) in doubles luge the previous week in Konigssee, Germany, the Canadian doubles team struggled to keep pace with the faster teams in Oberhof on their Global Steel/Crescent Point Energy-sponsored luge. Walker and Snith finished with a two-run time of one minute, 24.168 seconds, less than a second behind the winning German team. Still, the Oberhof finish is a big improvement from last year’s result when they did not finish and Walker suffered a concussion.

The Oberhof World Cup luge is the first of three seeding events for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, which begin Feb. 7.

Next up for Walker and Snith is a World Cup luge event Jan. 18-19 in Altenberg, Germany.
