Three of five St. Timothy School Thunder wrestlers came home with medals this past weekend, two as city champions.

Callum McNeice and Ryan Loeppky both took gold at the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association city championships March 1 at Crescent Heights High School in Calgary.

“The boys wrestled really hard,” said Thunder wrestling coach Andy Macri. “Everybody wrestled really well.”

Charles Cook won silver at the tournament with Luke Clubb finishing sixth and Rory O’Donnell placing in the top 10.

With their medal performances, McNeice, Loeppky and Cook advance to the provincial high-school wrestling tournament March 7-8 at Calgary’s Lester B. Pearson High School.

“I think they all have the chance to win the gold, all three of those gentlemen, if they can wrestle the way they’re capable of,” Macri speculated. “They’ll be ready and fired up.”

But they can’t be overconfident going in, he cautioned.

“Every match is different,” Macri related. “The important thing is they wrestle hard. The other guy wants it too, right?”

The Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association provincial wrestling tournament goes March 7-8 at Lester B. Pearson High School in Calgary.
