Cobra boys cleaning up

It was a banner weekend for the Cochrane High School boys basketball teams, as the senior boys won the Bowness Trojan Classic Feb. 9 in Calgary for the first time in the tournament’s 32-year history.

It was a banner weekend for the Cochrane High School boys basketball teams, as the senior boys won the Bowness Trojan Classic Feb. 9 in Calgary for the first time in the tournament’s 32-year history. The junior-varsity Cobras boys won the Clash of the Titans Tournament Feb. 9 at Forest Lawn High School in Calgary.

At the Bowness Trojan Classic, the CHS senior boys beat No. 2-ranked Foremost 85-62; beat Calgary powerhouse Henry Wisewood 99-78 and won the final 79-49 over Calgary Division 1 team William Aberhart. The Cobras senior boys are now 25-5 on the season including tournament play, have won three tournaments and made finals appearances in the other two. They are currently ranked No. 1 in the province for high school 3A boys basketball.

The JV squad, meanwhile, won the Clash of the Titans tourney by beating Calgary’s Lord Beaverbrook in the final. Brock Wiebe, Jake Nielson and Ethan Forrest were named players of game and Nielson was named tourney MVP. The Grade 9-10 Cobras were up against mostly Grade 10-11 teams from larger Calgary schools at the tourney. The JV Cobras boys basketball team is 20-3 this season including tournament play.
