Smarting from a painful start to the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League’s Junior B Tier 1 season, the Rockyview Silvertips are hoping some home cooking can help turn their fortunes around.
The ’Tips, featuring players from the Cochrane/Airdrie area, opened their season with a troika of losses in Airdrie. Following a decent 17-9 road showing in a 17-9 loss to the Calgary Chill, the Rockyview followed that up with a 15-3 loss to the Shamrocks at Stu Peppard Arena.
The 0-5 ‘Tips now embark on a four-game Cochrane homestand starting May 23 at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC).
“Obviously, it’s a work in progress whenever you have a new team, and we weren’t expecting to be the No. 1 team right away,” said Airdrie forward Jordan Erlandson. “However, I think at the end of the season, we will be right up there.”
The Silvertips get a chance to turn it around against the winless (0-4) Okotoks Marauders.
“I think everyone is looking forward to that one,” Silvertips defender Anton Jensen said. “We like playing in Airdrie, as that gives players and fans a chance to play in a different arena. But we have our practices in Cochrane and I think we are going to have a pretty intense atmosphere for that one.
“ We’re the underdogs right now compared to the other teams in our league. But we are working hard to get things better, and I think we will be a tough team to play against when we return to Cochrane.
Cochrane players include Drew Cantor, Shane Murphy, goalie Matt Taylor, Cordell Lee and Nolan Morrison.
