You want basketball? You’ve got basketball, as the sixth-annual Cochrane Classic high school basketball tournament bounces its way into town starting the morning of Jan. 10.

You’ve got basketball, as the sixth-annual Cochrane Classic high school basketball tournament bounces its way into town starting the morning of Jan. 10. Taking place at both Cochrane and Bow Valley high schools, 24 teams will by vying for tournament bragging rights. Schools from Red Deer, Leduc, Stoney Plain and Canmore, just to name a few, will make up the draw in four separate brackets – senior girls, senior boys, junior-varsity girls and junior-varsity boys. There are six teams in each bracket.

“It’s the same size at the last couple years, 24 teams for six years now,” said tournament coordinator Doug Jensen of Cochrane High. “A lot of basketball being played in the span of about 36 hours, about 36 games in 36 hours.”

The tournament opens 9 a.m. Friday with the Cochrane Cobras teams playing all their Friday games at their home gym and the Bow Valley Bobcats teams playing all day Friday at their gym before Saturday’s playoff matchups are determined.
