Cochrane’s Devon Fordyce was pressed into action at the Western Canada Cup Junior A hockey championship in Nanaimo April 28.

The 19-year-old backup netminder with the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League was put in half way through the game against host Nanaimo Clippers after Bandits starter Michael Fredrick gave up five goals on 12 shots in the game’s first 30 minutes. Fordyce gave up just two goals in the final half of the game as Nanaimo beat the AJHL-champion Bandits 7-2. The tourney features Junior A champions from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and the host. Top two teams advance to the RBC Cup national junior A hockey championship later this month in Prince Edward Island.
