Cochranite makes U13 girl's soccer team

Cochrane’s Delaney Vanderwater has been selected to play for the Alberta Soccer Association South Under-13-year-old (U13) girl’s team.

Cochrane’s Delaney Vanderwater has been selected to play for the Alberta Soccer Association South Under-13-year-old (U13) girl’s team.

The Manachaban Middle School student is one of 18 southern Alberta players to make the team, which plays at the Pacific Challenge tournament in Vancouver next month.

The tournament features top U13 girl’s teams from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Vanderwater made the Alberta South U13 girl’s team after making the first round of cuts at May 23-24 tryouts, where 36 players attended.

The final roster was chosen June 3.

Vanderwater made the squad, despite breaking her leg (fractured fibula) during training in February.

Following eight weeks of injury rehabilitation, she began training in earnest May 3 and was able to crack the Alberta South U13 girl’s roster.
