A harried sports reporter sprinted into WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary to take some photographs of Cochrane’s Coda Gordon skating in a July 15 scrimmage at Calgary Flames prospects camp.

Lacking the compass, GPS and trail of breadcrumbs he relies on for direction, said reporter spotted a room loaded with laptop computers overlooking the ice. Assuming it was the press box, he entered, blurting, “Are you guys press?”

A man in a white shirt, focused on the scrimmage, looked away from the ice and calmly replied, “No.”

It was at that point the sports reporter realized the person answering the question was Flames general manager Jay Feaster.

Oops.

Feaster then graciously directed the reporter to ice level to get photographs before refocusing his attention on young Flames prospects churning up and down the Joan Snyder Arena ice.

Nice.

It’s very reassuring to know a guy in Feaster’s position, who is up to his eyebrows in player-personnel decisions with a National Hockey League team, can take the time to dish out an assist to a directionally-challenged reporter looking to score a photo.

Cheers.
