Members of the Calgary Stampeders will be in Cochrane June 21 to help raise funds for the town’s first outdoor artifical-turf field.

Being held at Cochrane Toyota, head coach John Hufnagel, president Gordon Norrie, quarterback Drew Tate and fullback Rob Cote of Cochrane will all be on hand representing Calgary’s Canadian Football League team and their support of the project.

The evening event features live and silent auctions.

“It’s coming along really well,” Cochrane Lions Minor Football Society vice-president Paul McLean said of the turf project taking shape at Bow Valley High School. The field will be made of the same FieldTurf Revolution material the Stampeders just had installed at McMahon Stadium. “We’re calling it the Cochrane Turf Gala. We’re hoping to solidify funding announcements from other donors at the event. What we really want to see here is the support of the community. We want to focus on this is a multi-sport field.”

The event kicks off 6 p.m., June 21, at Cochrane Toyota with QR770’s Jock Wilson emceeing. E-mail [email protected] to get in on the action.
