The Cochrane Generals have retained the services of goalie coach Tyler Fyten for the upcoming season.

But, while Fyten is on board, the Heritage Junior Hockey League team is still considering candidates for two assistant-coaching vacancies.

New head coach Evan McFeeters, who replaced Ken Soloski when the team opted to re-do its coaching staff in the off-season, says the Generals should have all its assistants in place by the end of the month.

“We’re looking for two guys to help out,” McFeeters, who’s coaching at minor hockey camps this summer, said. “One guy who’s going to work with the forwards, for the most part, and another guy to work with the defensive corps.”

McFeeters, who coached the Bow Valley Timberwolves midget AA team the past two seasons, has spoken with some interested candidates. But he wasn’t naming any of them.

“We’ve got a philosophy that we’re going to go forward with,” he explained. “Right now, I’ve talked to a few coaches out there and I’m just trying to find a good fit for the players that are coming up, as well as my philosophy.”

At 26 years old, McFeeters is a young head coach in the junior ranks. Finding a seasoned assistant is high on his priority list.

“Personally, I’m looking for experienced coaches. I’ve got a few lines in the water right now. Of course, for assistant coaches, there’s a lot of time to commit.”

The team expects to have the new assistants in place by July 30.
