Grizzlies sharp in win

It’s never easy for a fledgling rugby effort. And when the Bow Valley Grizzlies come calling, it gets even tougher.

It’s never easy for a fledgling rugby effort. And when the Bow Valley Grizzlies come calling, it gets even tougher.

The first-year Airdrie Highlanders put up a valiant effort against the Grizz on May 24 in Airdrie, but were unable to contain Bow Valley in a 53-14 Calgary Rugby Union Division 3 men’s loss.

The Grizzlies scored early with a well-worked try down the right, ending with a pass out wide to Kyle Colling who scored one of his three tries in the corner. The Grizzlies had the lion share of possession during the first half and continued much the same in the second with tries from Kyle Colling, James Kuehn, Joey Clarke and a superb forward try that saw sockless Dave Evans pick the ball up from the base of the scrum to score to the left of the posts.

In Under-15-year-old (U15) play, Bow Valley Bears challenged a strong Foothills Lions side in Okotoks on May 24, coming up on the short end of a 36-7 decision after keeping it close (15-7) to the half.
