Seeking something different on your mid-summer golf calendar.

Then Livingstone Golf Course has what you’re looking for.

The brand-new track, located one kilometre south of Highway 1 on Sibbald Creek Trail, has been years in the making and is still very much under construction. The course opens with nine holes, of a planned 18, and a driving range Aug. 1. For $35 taxes in, you get nine holes and a power cart at Rockyview’s newest track.

Was it mentioned that the new facility is still under construction?

“Just finishing up the cart paths right now. We’re in good shape for Friday (Aug. 1),” said Livingstone GC general manager Robert Grisdale.

“We’re in a cabin right now and we’re in the process of building another temporary clubhouse that’s going to last us a few years. And then we’ll build a permanent one when the back 9 is open. Right now we have an old log cabin at the first tee. It’ll do for now until we get the temporary clubhouse up and running. We’ll serve snacks and drinks. It’s a big work in progress. But it’s time to open the doors and get some people in here.”

So it’s more about the golf than anything at the moment. The nine holes play 2,914 yards from the white tees with five par-4 holes, two par-5’s and two par-3’s.

The location, and vistas, are stunning.

“It’s in a nice setting. There are a couple of razorback ridges that run right through the front 9. We have some pines that grow 1,000 years old. Overlooking the driving range, there’s a reservoir at the back of it. As you’re hitting balls, you’re looking over the scenic hillsides and the lake below. Quite pretty. We have a lot of wildlife here. Saw a bear walking through here the other day. We have some resident hawks. Lots of deer around. Quite a nice place. You’d never know you’re just a kilometre off the highway.”
