Not to be out-done by his older brother, Chace, Cochranite Jake Nielson will have a chance to play for a Canadian title at the U15 championship tournament, which is Aug. 4 to 11 in St. John’s, Nfld.

This past season, Nielson played for the Cochrane Cobras high school team and previously played for Alberta U15 coach Jackson Parker at the Western Canada Summer Games in 2011.

“I’ve always loved basketball and I knew the coach, so I thought I had a good chance to make it,” Nielson said. “I learned a lot from him and especially how to be a better basketball player.

“I’m really excited. I heard St. John’s is a beautiful place and I can’t wait.”

Nielson and the rest of his Alberta U15 teammates will continue to train through the summer and play in two tournaments in Vancouver and Regina before the final showdown in Newfoundland.
