No hometown homecoming for Raymond

Sorry Flames fans but it doesn’t look like Mason Raymond is coming to Calgary, at least not as a member of the local team, said his agent J.P. Barry of CAA Sports.

“I have had no conversation with the Calgary Flames with regards to Mason,” said Barry.

The rumours of Raymond to Calgary started when the Vancouver Canucks chose not to resign the feisty left-winger from Cochrane and haven’t let up.

“We’ve had a lot of discussion with teams, but right now we’re going to keep going back to three or four teams that we’ve had the most discussions with and keep looking at possibilities,” Barry said.

With 10 goals and 22 points in a shortened NHL season, the 27-year-old put up solid numbers and remained healthy throughout the season.

At 27-years-old he’s still a very serviceable option for teams looking to add energy and character, but the one time 25-goal scorer might have to prove himself still, possibly in the way of a single year contract.

“Whenever a player goes into free agency they have to be prepared to listen to a number of different options, but obviously Mason would prefer a multi-year deal,” said Barry.
