Following an undefeated season, and a 43-35 semifinal win May 29 over the University of Calgary Varsity Squad, the Rocky View Rebels U16 boys basketball team is in the Calgary Minor Basketball Association’s U17 championship game tonight (June 5) against the Genesis Club U17 Blue team. Tipoff is 8 p.m. at Calgary’s Centennial High School.

The Rebels beat Genesis twice in the regular season, by just three and two points respectively.

Leading the way for the Rebels in their semifinal victory against University of Calgary Varsity was Cole Albersworth of George MacDougall High School with 15 points, followed by Bert Church’s Logan Hymas and Cochrane High’s Jake Nielson with eight points each.

On June 1, the Rebels finished second at the Vision Classic U17 tournament despite missing three of their more-experienced players and fielding a roster of five Grade 9 players.

The Rebels’ only loss came in the championship game against the Calgary Collective U18 club.
