Another weekend, another medal haul for Cochrane Cowboys wrestlers.

At Edmonton Jan. 30-31 with their junior and senior high school teams, the Cowboys wrangled a total of seven medals.

At the Paperweight Invitational (junior high), Naomi Cook won silver, Danika Cook gold and Connor Pointen gold. Isaiah Springer placed fourth.

At the University of Alberta Golden Bear senior-high tournament, Callum McNeice, Aidan McKeage, and Brendan McKeage all won gold. Charles Cook took silver.

“We’re getting into the load cycle here for provincials and nationals,” said Cowboys coach Vern McNeice. “So the fact we’re competing well at this point shows we’re well on the way. The kids have worked hard and committed probably more regularly, maybe, than some of our competitors, I hope.”

The results are proof the hard work is paying off and that the Cowboys are heading in the right direction as they roll into the heart of the season.

“It’s putting the kids in the right mindset,” coach McNeice said. “It gives these kids confidence. Working hard and being confident, knowing the time they’re putting in is working.”

The Cowboys, and the school programs they wrestle for at St. Timothy, Cochrane and Bow Valley high schools, are gearing up for regional and provincial-grade meets in Calgary and Cochrane over the next month.
