Sledge hockey gold for pair of Cochranites

Two Cochranites have brought home gold from the Western Sledge Hockey tournament in Leduc. Playing for Calgary Venom, Eric Carvelli and Shane Mott won gold in the Under-12-year-old (U12) division at the April 4-6 regional tournament.

Two Cochranites have brought home gold from the Western Sledge Hockey tournament in Leduc.

Playing for Calgary Venom, Eric Carvelli and Shane Mott won gold in the Under-12-year-old (U12) division at the April 4-6 regional tournament.

Calgary Venom has 15 players and spends most of the season practising and scrimmaging prior to entering regional tournaments. There are four “able-bodied” players who play alongside kids who face challenges such as Cerebral Palsy or amputation.

The Venom defeated teams from Edmonton, Kindersley, Sask. and Regina to earn the gold. The team has also been profiled on CBC and Hockey Night in Canada, had ice time with Olympians, and been involved in a charity match against radio personalities
