Captain Patrick Forde led the charge for the Cochrane Generals this past weekend, leading the junior B hockey team to a first-round sweep over the High River Flyers with seven goals and two assists.
The 21-year-old forward produced a stellar performance, scoring seven goals and adding two assists to help the Gens see out the bottom-seed Flyers 6-3 and 6-2 on Feb. 17 and 18 to advance to the Heritage Junior Hockey League's (HJHL) south division's semi-finals against the Medicine Hat Cubs.
Cochrane's second playoff opponent will likely put forward a tougher fight than the bottom-seed Flyers did. The Cubs finished second ahead of the Gens in the HJHL standings, and beat the Generals in three out of five of their regular-season encounters (one of which was in overtime).
The Gens and Cubs will compete in a best-of-seven series to determine which team advances to the HJHL south division finals.
The two teams will play their first game this evening (Feb. 21) in Medicine Hat. They will square off again in southeast Alberta on Friday, Feb. 24 for game two.
Game three will be in Cochrane on March 25, with puck-drop set for 7:45 p.m. at the Cochrane Arena.
