Trinity Taekwon-Do of Cochrane is sending six competitors to the Western Canadian Taekwon-Do championships this weekend (May 9-10) in Spruce Grove.
Three participants will be competing in their first-ever regional tournament, where competitors are grouped by age, belt level and gender.
“Out of our six people, it will be the first time for three,” said Trinity Taekwon-Do coach Cam Macdonald. “I’m hoping those three have a positive experience and get a passion for it down the road. The other three have been to tournaments before. I hope they have a great experience and perform the way they can perform.”
Azariah Peever, Rick Gelowitz, Joey Gelowitz, Max Cinnamon, Zoe Cinnamon and Cameron Gee will all compete. Macdonald is going as a coach/instructor.
As well, Trinity TKD students Colin Fetaz and Kurtis Lenson earned their third-degree black belts in an April 14 test judged by Macdonald and a sixth-degree black belt instructor from Airdrie.
“They are my two highest-ranking black belts and they’ve both been training for a number of years,” Macdonald said.
