Thunder roll on track

St. Timothy School Thunder athletes medalled at the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association City track-and-field championships May 24 in Calgary. Jocelyn Aab took bronze in the senior girl’s long jump with a 4.48 metre-jump.

St. Timothy School Thunder athletes medalled at the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association City track-and-field championships May 24 in Calgary.

Jocelyn Aab took bronze in the senior girl’s long jump with a 4.48 metre-jump. She followed that with a fourth-place result in the senior girl’s triple jump, with a jump of 9.10 metres.

Alex Howells won bronze in the junior boy’s 3,000-metre run with a time of nine minutes, 51.86 seconds, missing second place and a trip to provincials by two seconds, and missing the school record by one second. Other Thunder results at City meet included:

Kennedy Younger – senior girl’s 1,500-metre run (10th), 400m (eighth), 800m (eighth). Jessica Brolsma – seventh, senior girl’s 3,000m. Kain Simmer – seventh intermediate boys 3,000. Seela Wulff – 11th junior girl’s triple jump. Bryanne Labbe – 12th, intermediate girl’s high jump. Alyssa Bennett – 13th, intermediate girl’s shot put. Morgan Geremia – 12th, senior girls javelin. To round the meet off, St. Tim’s had a ninth-place finish in the girl’s open 4x400m relay, (Seela Wulff, Bryanne Labbe, Jessica Brolsma, Kennedy Younger). The Thunder boy’s 4x400m relay finished 12th (Charles Cooke, Duncan Swedlo, Alex Howells, Graeme Murphy).

Track coach Travis Cummings was also busy, finishing third overall and first in his age group (20-29) at the 5 Peaks running championships May 24 at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. His time of 37 minutes, 39 seconds over the 10-kilometre course qualified him for the national championship at Kicking Horse.
