St. Timothy High School Thunder cross-country runners have jogged their way into the Calgary Catholic Junior High School Meet of Champions 2 p.m. today (Oct. 3) at Canmore Park in Calgary.

Of the 29 Thunder runners who took part in the Sept. 24 qualifying meet in Calgary, eight advanced to the Meet of Champions in which 160 total runners from across the Calgary Catholic Junior High School Cross Country League qualified.

“Our record before was eight kids. So we tied that. We have four Grade 7 girls which I thought was really cool,” said St. Timothy cross-country running coach Travis Cummings. “They’re looking like favourites going in. It should be good.”

Thunder runners Sage Meyers (Grade 8 girls) and Sara Dumais (Grade 7 girls) won gold at the Sept. 24 qualifying meet to advance to today’s Meet of Champions which is the city championship for Calgary Catholic junior-high kids.

Eve Hebert (silver in Grade 9 girls at qualifying), Connor McNeice (bronze, Grade 8 boys) and Grade 7 girls Rachel Kraft, Michelle Conway and Hannah Bahrey will also be running for St. Tim’s today. Eric Swedlow qualified in Grade 7 boys.

Senior high school cross-country runners have Calgary city championships Oct. 9 at Calgary Olympic Park. St. Tim’s has 15 runners attending that meet.
