Cochrane’s Bow Valley Timberwolves AA hockey program is sending nine players to the South Central Alberta Hockey League’s (SCAHL) all-star games this weekend.

Two midget, two bantam and five peewee Timberwolves were all selected by their teams to attend the Jan. 17-18 all-star event in Medicine Hat. All will be playing for SCAHL North Division all-star teams.

Leading the way were Timberwolves senior (Midget AA) players Noah Bigland and Colton Wong.

Bigland anchors the back end for the Midget Timberwolves.

“It’s his third year in the league. He’s really matured as a defenceman,” Midget Timberwolves coach Kris Keller says of Bigland, who eats up major minutes on the blueline for Bow Valley. “His defensive play this season has been outstanding. He’s a really tough guy to beat one-one-one. He has size, he’s an excellent skater. He’s got the whole package.

“He’s been our rock on the back end.”

Adding to his reliable all-star defensive play, Bigland has chipped in three goals and four assists in 27 games this season.

Forward, and team captain, Colton Wong is Bow Valley’s other Midget all-star. Wong leads the team with 17 goals and 11 assists in 26 games this season.

“He’s a skilled guy who puts his heart and soul into it every time he’s on the ice,” Keller observes of his captain. “He’s up there in the top of the league for goals. There’s a reason for that.”

Forward Keenan McElroy (20 goals, 19 assists in 24 games) and defenceman Justin Berube (4g, 10a in 24) are Bow Valley’s bantams selected to the SCAHL all-star event.

From Timberwolves Black, forward Nickolas de Beurs (21g, 9a in 24), defenceman Tyrel Bauer (5g, 11a in 24) and goalie Parker Sawka (6-3, 3.91 GAA) were selected. Forwards Damon Agyeman (4g, 10a in 21) and Shaw Cathcart (17g, 10a in 24) were selected from Timberwolves Red.
