Cochrane’s Trinity Taekwan-Do club is taking part in a Calgary tournament later this month to raise funds for The Calgary Police Foundation, with an emphasis on at-risk youth and anti-bullying.
Trinity’s Cameron Mcdonald, a fifth-degree black belt in the martial-arts discipline, says it’s the first time ever the annual Calgary Regional Taekwon-Do event has embarked on a fund-raising endeavour.
“The 10 Calgary and area International Ch’Ang-Hon Taekwon-Do Federation (ICTF) instructors have collaborated together to co-host this event,” Mcdonald said. “Anti-bullying and child safety are integral parts of each of our Taekwon-Do programs and supporting the Calgary Police Foundation aligns perfectly with the principles of the founder of Taekwon-Do, who advocated for us to be champions of ‘freedom and justice.’ ”
Mcdonald anticipates 15-25 Cochranites will attend the Feb. 22 event at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology gym. Action gets underway at 9 a.m.
