Walker, and luge doubles teammate Justin Snith of Calgary, teamed up with men’s singles luger Samuel Edney and women’s singles luger Alex Gough to finish the team relay event with a combined time of two minutes, 4.202 seconds; just four-tenths of a second behind the gold medallists from Germany.

Walker and Snith are also luging closer to a medal in the men’s doubles event, finishing fourth at Whistler, just 27-thousands of a second behind the bronze medallists from Austria.

The next World Cup luge event goes Dec. 13-14 at Park City, Utah, and the Olympic countdown is at 56 days to Sochi.

Milan in tough at NFR

Cochrane steer wrestler Straws Milan is getting a taste of just how hard it is to take any money out of the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas.

The only Canadian competing at the elite pro rodeo event, who won $100,000 at the Calgary Stampede in 2011, has yet to win a nickel after six rounds at the Thomas and Mack Center.

His times have came down as the week progressed, starting at 7.2 and 8.6 seconds in rounds 1-2 before getting down to 4.6 in rounds 3-4. But he went over 10 seconds in rounds 5-6 and the payouts are coming at four-second times or lower. His combined six-round time of 51.4 seconds has him ninth out of 15 steer wrestlers at the NFR, which runs until Dec. 14 in Vegas.
