Wow! Cochrane Ringette raises $14K for cancer

Cochrane Rockies under-14-year-old (U14) ringette team raised a total of $12,040 for the sixth annual Ringette Scores on Cancer tournament held Jan. 23-25 in Edmonton.

In addition, the Cochrane Ringette U10 Rebels raised and additional $2,305.

The purpose of the tournament is to raise awareness and funds for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. All participants, players and bench staff had to raise a minimum of $100 per person in order to participate in the tournament.

The U14 Rockies, comprised of 11 players and five bench staff, raised a total of $12,040 – well over the required $1,600 in order to participate, and more than two-times the amount of any other team in their division at the Edmonton tournament. It was the second-highest amount overall of the 20 teams taking part.

Cochrane’s Ella Gall raised more than $5,000 on her own, the top individual fund-raising effort. Fort McMurray edged Cochrane’s total fundraising initiative by just $160 in the final hour.

In total, Cochrane teams raised $14,345 out of $95,000 total raised for this season’s tournament.

The Ringette Scores for Cancer tournament has raised more than $450,000 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation in five years.
