The Cochrane Sloths put an exclamation point on their season by winning the Tier 5 Division at the Yelnats Cup March 30 in Cochrane.

The Yelnats (that’s Stanley, spelled backwards) Cup saw 24 midget hockey teams – eight each in Tiers 1, 3 and 5 – play for a season-ending trophy.

The Sloths were the lone Cochrane team to claim a Cup.

“It was a hard game,” Sloths forward Joseph Moores said of his team’s 7-5 trophy-winning effort over Edmonton KC Sabres. “That was the hardest game we’ve had all year.”

Sloths coach Sam Yetman was pleased with his team’s effort.

“In the end we pulled through. A great group of guys out there. They just have a lot of heart, that’s how it’s been all year. It’s a big win.”

In Tier 3, the Creston Chiefs downed the Cochrane Rockies 6-3 for the trophy.
