Knights thump Rangers 5-1 in second-round series opener of OHL playoffs

LONDON, Ont. — Ryan Humphrey scored twice, Sean McGurn had a goal and three assists and the London Knights cruised to a 5-1 series-opening win over the Kitchener Rangers Thursday night.

George Diaco, with a goal and an assist, and Denver Barkey added the others for London (45-21-2), which took a 1-0 lead in their second-round series of the OHL playoffs.

Brett Brochu made 22 saves.

Francesco Arcuri ended Brochu's shutout bid with a power-play goal with 4:44 remaining in the contest for Kitchener (33-29-6). Marco Costantini stopped 27-of-32 shots.

London jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Arcuri scored, with Diaco netting the final goal on the power play with 2:41 left. The Knights went 3-of-4 on the man advantage.

The Rangers entered the series coming off a four-game sweep of top-seeded Windsor Spitfires in the first round.
