QMJHL Roundup: Lawrence, Moosheads' fast start fuels 4-2 victory over Wildcats

HALIFAX — Josh Lawrence had two goals and an assist as the Halifax Mooseheads used a strong opening period to fuel their 4-2 win over the Moncton Wildcats on Monday.

David Moravec and Brady Schultz also scored for Halifax (38-8-4), which extended its win streak to three games. Brady James made 22 saves.

Connor Trenholm and Miles Mueller scored for Moncton (25-26-1-2), losers of three in a row. Jacob Steinman surrendered three goals on 12 shots in the first period before Vincent Filion stopped 13-of-14 shots in relief.

Lawrence scored short-handed and on the power play, and factored in on all three of the Moosheads' goals in a first period that saw them jump out to a 3-0 lead. Schultz's goal at 19:13 of the second sealed it after the Wildcats made it a one-goal game.

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Simon Hughes scored two goals, Jakob Robillard made 39 saves and the Charlottetown Islanders pulled away late for a 5-3 win over the Saint John Sea Dogs.

Kiefer Lyons, Michael Horth and Jérémie Biakabutuka added the others for Charlottetown (21-27-5-1), which won its second in a row. 

Noah Reinhart, Luka Benoit and Pavel Simek replied for Saint John (19-33-1-1), which dropped its third straight. Olivier Brideau stopped 25-of-29 shots.
