Kenneth Zelensky

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Kenneth Zelensky.  Ken passed away from complications related to a longstanding battle with Parkinson’s disease in the afternoon of April 11th, 2024, at the age of 82 in the presence of family and dedicated caregivers at Bethany Care Society in Cochrane, AB, where he called home since 2015.   Born in Prince Albert, SK on August 20, 1941, Ken was predeceased by parents, Sophie, and Mike Zelensky.  Beloved husband of Carol Zelensky, Ken is survived by his three sons Todd, Dean (Lana) and Chad (Lindsay); three wonderful granddaughters Sara, Lowen and Simone; three sisters Carole (Fred), Sandra (Don), Debbie (Dale) and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Ken became a figure of strength and perseverance under the challenges of chronic disease, never letting it define his life and always maintaining a quiet optimism.

Ken’s very first job was as a school bus driver and then he moved into a career at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre where he was known to be a firm and fair leader, and past colleagues still refer to him fondly as Kenny.  He was also involved with the Artic Credit Union.  After nearly 30 years of dedication to challenging work, Ken took early retirement in the late 90’s to focus more on connecting with his family and kept busy with home projects.  He soon sought out 2nd careers in sales (Memorial Gardens) and finally Seniors Transportation having maintained his class 5 license from his very first job.    Ken loved interacting with people, be they prospective customers or clients on his bus routes.

One of Ken’s most favourite pastimes was meeting with PA Correctional Center Alumni at Tim Hortons to collectively work out the problems of the world.  True to form, he listened more than he commented and when prodded to respond by other animated company, he stuck to his guns, steadfast in his opinion and not one to get caught in an argument.

Ken enjoyed his garden, meticulously maintaining his grass and spending time at the family cabin at Murray Point, taking note of development around the lake over the years before relocating to Cochrane.  He adored his grandchildren and was a devoted husband to Carol.  A man of few words who could, somehow, speak volumes.

If desired, as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to The Bethany Care Foundation at BETHANYCAREFOUNDATION.COM or by calling 403-210-4611.
