Philip Michael Kinch

Philip Michael Kinch passed away on Friday October 28th on his farm with his wife and daughter by his side. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sheila; children Jason (Leslie), Jamie (Erin), and Jennifer (Rob); as well as much loved grandchildren, Laeken, Aspen, Cache, Levi, Pepper and Gus. Family was everything to him. As one of sixteen kids, he leaves behind many brothers and sisters, and oodles of treasured nephews and nieces who lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Phil”. Philip was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Mary Kinch, brothers; Tommy, Dale, Pat; and sister, Mick.

In his younger years, Philip worked away well testing in the oil field and for his father’s company L. Kinch & Sons Construction. He took over the family farm breeding Salers and Charolais cows, following “Shorty’s” death in 1976. Many will recall the sound of his horn honking and the occasional curse word as he managed his herds and crops. Philip was an avid outdoorsman and passed on his passion to his children and grandchildren. He started Deersprings Outfitting and cherished time hunting in the mountains and around home with family and friends. Philip had a soft spot for strays and those in need and his door was always open to help a friend or a family member. He was much loved and will be deeply missed by many.

Services will be held Friday, November 4th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s church in Cochrane with interment and Tea Party to follow in Water Valley.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Philips’s name to the Alberta Hunters Education Instructors Association (AHEIA) or the Eastern Slopes Association to benefit junior sportsman and the trails he pioneered and the lands he cherished.
